About
A 2021–22 retail-hype tracker, archived
This was a personal project that watched meme and penny stocks for signs of crowd attention: price and volume alongside how fast people were posting about each ticker on Twitter, StockTwits and Reddit. The collectors no longer run (the TD Ameritrade API was retired and Twitter's API is paid), so this site is a read-only archive of the data collected between 2021-10-04 and 2022-11-06.
Original pipeline
- 1quote.pyTD Ameritrade API (tda-api) quotes for a watchlist plus StockTwits stream timing → quote
- 2tweets.pytweepy search: time span of the latest tweets per ticker → twitter
- 3reddits.pypraw: ticker mentions per subreddit per day → reddit
- 4options.pyTDA option chains: open interest, volume, max pain → options
- 5Flask + Socket.IOOriginal live dashboard reading Postgres and pushing updates every 10s
Scripts ran on a schedule via Windows batch jobs and wrote to PostgreSQL through SQLAlchemy.
Live replay
The original dashboard pushed a fresh table to the browser every 10 seconds over Socket.IO. /live recreates that: the server replays the archive one hourly sample at a time, running a SQLite port of the original raw_query() (latest vs. previous quote per ticker, ordered by volume ratio) with the replay clock standing in for now(). Each frame is streamed every 10 seconds over Server-Sent Events, and the page falls back to polling if streaming isn't available.
- Play, pause, step forward and pick any archived day; the “Replaying” indicator shows the clock being replayed.
- The columns and colour rules come from the old template. Price change is shown with the sign corrected (a rise is positive).
- New: per-ticker 24h sparklines built from real quote rows, sortable columns, a ticker filter and a mobile layout.
- /reddit (the original home page) and /twitter are ports of the original pages, with “today” set to a chosen archive date.
